We listen to families, connect and collaborate with community leaders, companies and medical professionals to understand the gaps within the Cincinnati-area sickle cell community so we can develop quality transitional programs, create effective workshops and advocate for parents, caregivers and patients to change life expectancy and improve quality of life for sickle cell patients.
WHY DO WE DO IT?
We want to bring awareness, inspire hope and advocate for patients and families coping within the many facets of Sickle Cell because we ARE FOR THE PATIENTS! We want to bridge the gaps that exist among education, awareness and medical attention at the local and national levels. We want to change the face of Sickle Cell so it's less about the race it impacts but more about the chronic pain, organ damage and everyday challenges encountered by sickle cell patients and their caregivers that makes every day life difficult. This shift, among other changes, will prompt for an immediate call for a greater understanding to increase funding and support. When sickle cell patients - especially adult sickle cell patients - know more, they will do more and live longer! THIS is our mission. We have a long journey ahead of us. With OUR PASSION and DEDICATION and YOUR HELP, we can MAKE A DIFFERENCE to improve the life expectancy for each and every sickle cell patient.

Sickle cell disease is an inherited blood disorder that affects red blood cells. People with sickle-cell disease have red blood cells that contain mostly hemoglobin S, an abnormal type of hemoglobin. Sometimes these red blood cells have difficulty passing through small blood vessels. When the damaged cells block small blood vessels, tissue that does not receive a normal blood flow eventually becomes damaged.
